Second was flooding or swamping of the vessel with 430 accidents, 144 injuries and 67 deaths (the highest number for deaths). Ranking third was hitting a fixed object, such as a pier, which cause 427 accidents, 269 injuries and 56 deaths.
· The vessels cursed with the most casualties were open motorboats with 1,652 total casualties. Of this number, 1,380 were injured, 189 drowned and 83 died from other causes. Ranking second were vessels classified as personal watercraft. Of the 637 casualties, 601 were injured, 13 drowned and 23 died from other causes. In third were cabin motorboats with 248 casualties, 223 injuries, 17 drownings and 8 other causes of death.
· Operator inattention was the primary contributing factor of accidents causing 567 incidents, 371 injuries and 57 deaths. Next was having an improper lookout, which contributed to 396 accidents, 247 injuries and 19 deaths. Ranking third was the inexperience of the operator, which produced 385 incidents, 262 injuries and 34 deaths.
